Good morning to all,

I am a self-taught sw2010 with which I have already done some projects of a certain complexity, overcoming the difficulties a bit with the help a little with the tutorials. I press that I work alone but I need to open the drawings from two different pcs (depending on where I am, but they are not connected in any way), on both I sw2010. today save all files on pen drive and open them from there, from one pc or from the other.
I was thinking about implementing the sw pdm, the one in the installation, but I was wondering if it was worth it. according to you can help in managing changes etc., while being I the only one who accesses files? How do you handle the issue of two different pcs?

thanks to those who will give me some suggestions

Leonardo

you must have them on the net (of course, they must be able to communicate). even just a home wifi, with the sharing of the folders.

greetings
Mar
As I told you, the two pcs are completely disconnected, one is my laptop, the other the pc of my "customer", a company far from me.

If you save on an external hard drive (or key) should go, at the limit you may have some problem with external references if maybe on the two pcs the key takes different letters.

pdm problem with this configuration is that these software usually save data on sql databases, which in principle claim to be on disk c windows, and certainly do not want to be on an external disk (the database engine leaves when the windows login has yet to happen, and so if you do not find the connected disks fails).

In my opinion, for one license, using a pdm is more expensive than the business. to the limit made a sheet of excel where to track orders and projects.

p.s. make sure before you ask your client to use your pc in his company network.

I fully agree with hunter. for the situation you have, monolicence doesn't make any sense the use of pdm that would only be an extra problem to manage and therefore a cost and an expense.

you keep code and review rules and apply them. It always worked.

I agree with what others wrote.
Plus I add that pdmworks uses a vault, then encrypted files within a non-canonic database (access, oracle, sql.)

for you it would take dropbox or freefilesync.
