Good evening to all,
apart from the use of free or open source cads that have often given me stability issues, I wonder whether it is legal to use veto versions of commercial software (of about twenty years ago). I do not consider myself an extraordinary "cadist", I began to use cad in faculties in 2001 and despite the launch of new versions, my personal production/time relationship remained almost unchanged over the years.
For example if I found software such as microstation 95 (which I have tried in the past) or architrion, could they be used or would it be unlawful?
so far I have done only small jobs, so the two software above would be more than valuable.
I would like to have some clarification and know your opinion about it.
Thank you.

I doubt it and if I can afford...if your production/time relationship has remained unchanged using the latest versions than you mentioned, the problem is yours! maybe for lack of time, or want, but if you use "the usual 4 cross commands" then a software like draftsight or nanocad (both free) in my opinion is more than enough for you

I have predicted that I do not consider myself at a high level. But I must say that I am not the only one, because I collaborated for some study (even with big projects), and the cad was considered and employed as an electronic mero tecnigraph. I remember they had a couple of adt licenses and didn't even know what it was for, what a shame. . .
the software that you mentioned do not or tried them, but from what I read also on this site are undoubtedly valid.
In fact I was referring to products that also made 3d and that they had rudiments of "bim" such as architrion, microstation 95 + triforma, or minicad.
I tried the last demos of revit, vectorworks and archicad, and it is surprising what they can do and the development of its producers. but in the end I would use them only to speed up the automatic obtainment of prospectuses, sections and views...but in summary they also did the "elder" software that I mentioned. Considering my attitudes it would be useless to take a few thousand euros to get the same result that I would reach with the use of software now outdated for the market and perhaps free. I repeat the question, just because some not developed, would it be lawful to use them?

I don't think so. even if I imagine that producers would not do any harm, formally distribution remains linked to the license. and the license is paid. In fact, it might not be for sale anymore and so you can't really use it.
I don't know, you could ask directly to the distributor, but I think they won't even answer you. . .

minicad doesn't even exist anymore (which if I don't run then only on macos); microstation triforma idem; architrion I never heard of it. I think it's not possible anyway.

curiosity: do the manufacturers still exist?
and in case they don't exist anymore?
Well, if the houses don't exist anymore it's like plagiating a song of a dead singer without heirs. an offence is formalized but cannot be denounced and therefore cannot be pursued (it is not crime and therefore is not persecutable of office).

to me it turns out that triforma still exists on the catalog bentley
Hi.

thanks for the clarifications. I did a little research and came across portals that relaunch some softwerhouse products still in circulation with the name of "abandonware" or "vetusware" . there was even autocad 13 (dos version), microstation v 5 (the previous to 95) and also a version of c4d of 2000 per mac. logic seems to me to be the one that spreads the video games of the past (mom). In the doubt I unload the trial of the last version of revit and I hold it in the drawer, then maybe in 15-20 years it will be discarded :mixed: and you can freely use my daughter if it will be architect :finger: . in the end I do not think that in 2030 we will build so different from today.

But I'm sure it's legal? the mame for example, if I don't remember badly, was banned because it violated some copyright.. .

In fact, the example wasn't exactly fit, because I also felt that there were some legal intake on the moths. However, the doubt remains to me, in the meantime, and without certain legality (on the use of old software) , I am oriented on free products or on some light version.
