command area does not return the area of an object

Hello everyone are michele, I have a very strange problem in the past I always used the command area until today. but this does not work today.
in practical click on the command area and below exit:
specify first angle or [Oggetto/Aggiungi area/Sottrai area/esci]...and I push to and tell me later
specify first angle or [Oggetto/Sottrai area/esci] and in this case select the 4 points
and I writeAdd mode) specify next point or [Arco/ Lunghezza/annulla/totale] <totale>....click sending and puf does not come out anything reappeared in the command bar the saying :specify first angle or </totale>[Oggetto/Aggiungi area/Sottrai area/esci]how can I do I am in the hallucinating ever happened I recommend to install again autocad 2012 lt?

Have you tried to select the "exci" option and press f2?
or, if you have to measure a single area you don't need to start with the add option
