assign new materials to objects

Good morning, I have a problem with materials. I downloaded windows on the internet, I don't understand why I can't change materials. selecting type change, I open the curtain and see the materials of the various window parts (ante, infix, davanzale, etc.) but if I check my material does not apply it, it becomes all light gray. I also tried to add parameters (even if there were already all) but it does the same thing to me, always light gray. practically this window I can use it with the only materials assigned by those who created it. Where's the hippo?? Thank you.

hi, I found some windows families here in the forum, you put them right in a discussion of 28/12/2007 " window and window to 2 doors/3 doors with shutters" both the window and the window door give me this problem with the materials, I certainly don't know the method. I don't think so.
selecting the material selector from the properties of the window [...] the browser of the materials opens, and from the project materials you proceed to the replacement.
ps the family is to render 54

What does the family mean to make 54? I only use revit as 3d program, I uploaded the object as a normal family....I saw it was a .rfa file

under materials and finishes I have:
frame material – by category , anton material – by category etc.... if instead of “per category” load “pino wood” in my window absolutely nothing changes.
If I do the same thing with other families the material changes, only this gives me the problem.
by clicking on the window and opening where you go to change the family I saw that the materials that make up the window are called “anonymous fixture” “davanzale fixture” etc. as I wanted to make the entrance door of the same material of the doors, I assigned the material “anthon tape”. It remains the fact that if you want the doors in pine or cherry, it does not change me, they always remain green, as well as the other parts of the window, I have to keep these materials.

... when clikki on the material field (e.g.: A square button with 3 dots appears on the side. clikka on that and opens the browser of materials. from the design materials, replace the texture, color, etc.
in practice the materials of that family (the window in version 2007) appear all gray, as to the name of the material (e.g. pine wood) is not associated with any texture, color, etc.
this because the families of 2007 were associated with materials of the archive of "accurender" which was the rendering sw (in revit) until the 2008 version.
with the 2009 version, the sw uses the rendering program "mental ray" (which is always inserted in revit), the families created with the previous version have lost the references of the "ownership of the material", so they have to reassign such "properties".

I did it. I changed the glass materials, doors, fixtures. I have one last problem.... the front strips, the ones that form the blanks. selecting them tells me that they belong to "model groups" groups of matrices 3" and does not open the curtain as in other elements to change the material.
