I was looking for an economic tool to manage cad cad files.
I saw that with svn technology (https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/subversion) you can do something functional.

I searched for packages already made but I didn't find them so I wrote something.

It is an interface (macro and sw visualbasic in catia) with which "rule" svn.

to be able to use my "quasi pdm" (wouldbepdm) it is necessary to install doveisesvn (http://tortoisesvn.net/) and know how to "handle" a little with the macro-cake.

as soon as the product will be a bit more mature I will write a few lines of manual.
in the meantime, who has a hurry to test it can freely download it to: https://github.com/robertobartola/wouldbepdm .

What does the system do? puts locks on files so as to avoid simultaneous access by different users?

the operation is as follows.
on xml files is the cad files are organized according to the following tree:
family / project / product / filecad
by selecting the file or product you need to checkout (download) and then the file can be opened on its last release.
it is also possible to search in which projects the current file belongs.
for popular xml file there is a small tool in wouldbepdm but there is also an excel file that generates and exports xml file.

then from catia, through the macros it is possible lock, unlock, commit, update ... of the chosen file.

long ago I wrote that I was working on a "domestic pdm" software to use with catia.
It was a series of macro-cats.

Now I rewrite everything and it is a stand-alone software that deals with "trace" the cad files of any type.
for now I am testing it on catia, soon on nug and then on other software stations.

Regardless of the cad system you use it can however be used maybe not 100%.
