binding compasses on curved rod

If I understood the problem I also passed and I solved by creating a tangent plane inside the compass then ties the tangent to the curve bar and ties the perpendicular axis to the hole at the center of the curvature radius. Let's say it sounds like a mess but I'll attach you two photos of how I always solved if I understood the problem.
