3d printer and inventor 2016

good morning users.
in the company there is a whale this idea of buying a 3d printer to produce small dowels that swallows the production. Have any of you ever used it with inventor? Is it compatible? brands and models that in case you use and which file formats support?

What numbers are we talking about?
I doubt that a 3d printer can help to streamline an inflated production.
we see how the discussion evolves, it is not an inventor problem but to understand the process you want to follow.

That's not a problem. the thing I want to know is if someone uses them, what they use, with what material and what kind of file they export. looking among the various features of some printers I see that they can use stl, x3g, code files but that I do not find as exportable by inventor.

used 10 times of number to print stuff totally useless on a form 1 to make two tests of available materials, never made tests on size/tolerance/etc.

where I worked, the 3d printer was used without using the 3d printer function of inventor because this function had not yet been implemented. It was enough to save the file in .stl format and imprtrated this file in the 3d printer program.
