Hello everyone, my name is stefano, I am a mechanical ing just in writing. I am learning for work to use catia, and being passionate about valve amps I decided to create an innovative frame made for rapid prototyping. Obviously the prototype must be functional, i.e. fulfill its function for years, without discoloration, deformations and losses of mechanical performance. not having experience of this sector, I ask you lumens on the technique to use. I was directed on sintering powder sls, and a company advised me to use nylon loaded glass, although I had addressed myself on nylon loaded aluminum (the price is about equal). What do you recommend? all then will be painted because aesthetics is fundamental. I'll try to post a photo, see if I can. I don’t know if you can ask, but do you know companies that make prototypes from the excellent value for money? the prototype is 400 mm tall, 300 deep, 150 wide. wall thickness is about 10mm. for a sls piece in nylon loaded glass they looked for me 1250 + iva, including painting. How do you feel this figure? Thank you in advance

we say that your object is not really "small", indeed it reaches even quite substantial dimensions.
When you talk about functional for years I get a shiver along my back.. .
In fact, one of the critical points also of thermoplastic materials "printed" is the ageing, if you consider that a prototype others is only a thermoplastic made in a different way, goes if it is obligatory to ask "how many years? "
It is common use to believe that a prototype serves as an opener for industrial production, except for rare cases. Moreover, the mechanical characteristics of a prototype will never match the printed homologue, we will approach much, but we will never succeed in matching it.
but we have the possibility to create "impossible forms to print" and this says long both on the approach and in your case should be taken for the design not having to subject to the rules of engineering for productive purposes.

for the price finally do not believe to have an object similar to 4 money, there are many companies that do the same job,
many honest as costs and some less,
many reliable as quality and others less.
so it will eventually be up to you to mediate and check if a company costs less but offers a poor object or costs more but offers me a great service.

It is a research that is objectively yours, we can give you some companies (there is a tread with all references )

Thanks for the answer. I am against the fact that the requested circus is proportional to the work plan necessary to work such a piece. fact is that for rapid prototyping is very attractive as my pull will be very low, if I can make 10 units throughout my life is a force! therefore the costs of a mold would be out of place. I still have to guarantee an eternal frame, a venual customer cannot call me in 7 years and tell me that the frame has crumbled.... advice? Can you possibly give me an offer if I send you an igs file? Thank you.

I don't think there's a literature like that.
or rather, I do not think that anyone has ever placed the problem of verifying its duration; therefore whatever is said to you in my opinion is unreliable.

In my view, I have fdm technology ( fused deposition model) and the work area of my machine does not fall within your requirements.
I can however activate myself to check with companies with which I collaborate any costs,
In this case it should be checked whether the piece should be monolithic ( 1 piece ) or if it can be decomposed and then "glued" to arrive at the final cost .
the price you refer to I think is precisely with this last hypothesis:wink:

Hi.
the quote provided to me refers to an object formed in two parts then joined. I was guaranteed the invisibleness of the operation. the quote I received is for two pieces. I would be happy to have suggestions from serious companies that can give me an offer without obligation. The only thing that frightens me is the long-term resistance of the prototype. but excuse me, since rapid prototyping is evolving towards rapid manufacturing, shouldn't it be studied and ensured functionality within a certain time range according to the type of product? Thank you very much

the alternative would be to do it not in a monolithic way.
If you divide the frame into multiple components, you can create it in milling and assemble it with screws naturally paying attention to the aesthetic factor, and in this case you would have a much wider range of materials on which you can work.
for example you could go on an aluminum alloy, you work easily, has excellent heat dissipation capabilities and in addition you finish or paint very well.

Yes, it is. but I am afraid that at the end the price of a frame assembled and worked cnc is still very high.... I will try to draw it maybe and request a quote

if you want to contact me in private ( follow the link in signature )
we will check the costs in my possession
