apertura file step

good morning.
kindly ask about opening a 180mb step file. the project was designed with sw2017 while i am trying to open it with sw2016.
if i tried to open it with open sw then: file, open, etc etc once you select the step in question crashes the program, while if i open it having sw closed and i do a simple double click in the file, i can open it.
then i click twice in the file after 5/6 hours opens the file, but if i run the import diagnostic it is loading hours and hours without ever unlocking.

what could be the reason why i can't open the file? could it be the difference in version of the program? what do you recommend? thank you.

( pc requirements do not center as, i have 8gb ram, dual core repentum 2.5ghz and a video card that manages quietly to maneuver the file).

usually with what file weight do you work with? I with an i7 3.5 16 gb ram and k2000 and and sw 2016 have some problem working with 180 mb file. Maybe the hardware is not suitable, for example I do not pass to 2017 because more demanding as resources and should at least think about 32 gb ram.
otherwise try to open it with freecad or with a stp viewer to make sure that the file was not generated with errors.
step is a "neutro" interchange file if well generated no matter which software or version comes it must open without problems.
