archicad limitations

I have seen use by my friend architect archicad 14 and I must say that, in the essential tools, it is really fast and functional. I find, however, that you lose a lot in case of particular situations, such as: rotation of objects in 3d (I must use the gdl? wouldn't it be enough to rotate the object whatever it is? );
creation of sinks with particular silhouettes in the walls (I have to create an opening? trying to use the function "operation with solid elements", sometimes it does not work!);
operate on inclined planes.
My need is to have a simple but complete cad (x small architectural works), but archicad seems limiting to me in certain aspects (excessive use of plug-ins). Perhaps, in seeing this friend of mine, did I not gather all the potential of this cad?

now the plugins are included in the service contract, so having them all is not a problem.
for objects depends, from object to object, there are those who try rotation, for others you have to enter a command gdl (though I do not know if the thing with the 14 has changed, I use little objects).
I think it's a problem of your friend, Archicad is very conforming from this point of view. Ask him if he can use complex profiles.

thanks x your answer! but once a complex profile is realized, how can I rotate it on the 3 axes? I always come from the beginning! Are you a student? Congratulations!!! reading your messages (even in the other forums of this site) I noticed your knowledge of this cad!! !

I don't have a specific project, because I'm evaluating which software can do x me. as I have no hurry (I haven't left iva yet), I am informing myself about various architectural cad software, including archicad. e.g. if you were to create a reverse cone (party hat), whose iclination of the axis is 10 degrees compared to the vertical, how do you do? you are obliged to use a gdl! even only with autocad (which I do not like), you have x any type of object, the wheel function (on each axis!).

I know what you mean. depends on the objects, if they have the expected rotation, otherwise you have to go of gdl or plugin, which as I told you by now are almost mandatory because included in the assistance contract cigraph. However, I don't know if with version 14 they solved this problem or not.
personally I have never had any problems of this kind, because with a little imagination you can overcome more or less everything (for example for fences on inclined planes I always used complex profiles etc)

However, according to me, given your needs, I would try to download some demo versions and see which ones you are most comfortable with.

I think it's just this.
to rotate an object of 90° (from horizontal to vertical),muro,solaio,falda or that I know,just place in a front axometric view with azimut at 90° and save as object.for an arbitrary and optional rotation,just add two/three simple strings of gdl http://www.archiradar.it/index.php?...-of-a-object-3d-nello-spazio&catid=61:gdl〈=it

thanks for your availability and compliments for your expertise! but I continue to be of the idea that a simple operation like rotation of an object in 3d should be inherent in the program and not need to move programming languages. In closing this discussion, I try to launch a provocation: another cad that a few years ago I had used (cadvance), had some limitations and, to obvious, allowed to realize macros (sequence of commands/strings programming). wouldn't it be possible to create a "macro" rotation objects?. You can. all in all, the cigraph plugins are basically this. Knowing a bit of gdl language you can do yourself plugins (such as cumirko of archicadobjects).
However, a personal opinion on the rotation of objects is that it is sometimes annoying, but really sometimes. It is difficult for the building to put on inclined planes that should remain inclined. Moreover, the plugins are almost mandatory (as I understood they are part of the service contract).

I mean, for me a limitation would be a software that does not allow to vary the profiles of a wall, or stratigraphy. the fact of changing the inclination of objects doesn't change my life and makes me waste little time those rare times when I need it
