cable markers

to identify cables within a set I would like to use cosmetic features that give me the possibility to put, at a specific point of the cable, plates/markers or other where, through the application of an aspect or simpler the insertion of a string can immediately identify the cable in question.
I tried to use the brander/label cosmetic feature but not from the expected results and also does not allow to apply custom aspects.

do you know how to do it while remaining in assembly/cablage?

so it is not good because the label is not visible directly on the cable and considering that there can be many cables I would not reach my goal. Moreover, I need you to stay in the wiring field, then with features related to cables, without creations of particular features such as protrusions or other. thanks to the suggestion, however.
