I am sorry first of all if the title of the discussion is unclear, I try now to explain myself better.
We are machine builders and today a customer who is about to redesign his machine asked us to send him a 3d together of our device that will then be mounted on board this new machine, so that we can consider its size without creating interference problems between their machine and our device.
for obvious reasons of confidentiality of our project (although properly protected by patents) we do not want in any way that the 3d we should provide, allows our customer to understand how many parts it is composed, detect the individual parts components, in short, it must not be possible for him to succeed in any way being able to copy it.
do you have any idea what kind of file we could provide?
we are talking about a product with about 500 components between drawing details and trade parts.
our customer works with solidworks and we with catia v5
thanks for the help
cordial greetings

You could create a part from product, of course by deleting many components and/or altering others or erasing parts that you don't want to see, then you create a part from product (without saving your product obviously, otherwise you would make a disaster :) , and then you can make a step to send ............ with just what you think is not a problem x the company ................. .

to understand how it works and/or how you could use it, take a test on a small part................... wanting you could also then assemble the parts in a boolean way and would be even more messed up to decipher.......... .

Hi.

I add, if I may, to what is said by mcbramby

1) In these cases, there should be a confidentiality agreement that protects (theoretically) from misconduct.

2) that "I can't copy it in any way" , I don't think anyone can guarantee it.
theoretically they could copy it even only seeing a jpeg.
then you could discuss until tomorrow on what accuracy of "copying" can get from one or another file.
But if I were you, I would leave the assembly, remove all the internal or important parts, leaving only the "external" parts or necessary for the encumbrance.
attention to 3d annotations that can pass through many formats (it seems step and wrl, at least) .
Then, depending on the "trust" :
-step (which for many cads is now almost a native format because it passes all geometry without degradation, apart from the tolerance set)
- 3dxml
- wrl (graphic file but some systems like teamcenter read a lot of information, almost like normal geometry)
- stl ( defines a 3d image) in theory also this is reproducible (see 3d or reverse print) but I don't know what to use safer.

If I insert this post, always check by charging at least with v5 that the exported files are what you expect (eye to the units of measurement that then you find a large wrl as a grain of sand instead of 4 mt, maybe an image with maximum quotas......... )

I have always and only exported from v5 and suppliers, generally, are on v5 or nx , so I do not know what formats digests solidworks, but I think I have read that these listed read them.

Welcome!

thanks to all.... at the end we will send a clean file from the sensitive data to be sure that does not arise various sweeps !!!
Good job
fulvio
