change units of measurement of a component

boys, I know the procedure to change it, for example switch from "single unit" to "ml" but now I need to set the "mq" of an area, base x height" but once created the parameter I can't select it.. . .
Does anyone have experience with this?

in distinct components I need to have different components where it appears in addition to the nr of the pieces, also for some codes the total linear meters of the assemblies, the square meters of surface of another component (a sheet panel)....

regarding the linear meters of a profile I have no problem because imposed the variable "length" as quantity, but I have problems with the square meters....


also because I noticed that it makes choose variables are with unit measure in "mm"!! :
