the product maintain links. it is necessary, however, that before migration all constraints are in place.
with v6 the catpart become 3dpart; catproduct become plmproduct and catdrawing become plmdrawing.v6 absolutely needs a plm. I was told that if you want, you can create folders (folders) within the database, but I haven't tried concretely yet.

from what I know, v6 only works with a single integrated database.
the main work environments partdesign, assembly desing and drawing remain essentially the same as before.

if you start from a filesystem and load all v5 data in v6 environment, these are automatically "converted". I say "converted" between quotes because it is not a real conversion.
v6 is divided into two strongly related worlds: the way of "authoring" and the world of "data management".
the world of "authoring" is the one where you plan (draws, products, parts) that substantially does not differ much from catia v5 to less of the new features and from the management of the assemblies, much more powerful (of course there is a plm system behind!). the world of "data management" is the world where objects are characterized (attributes, cicle of life, etc.). This world (simple) can be 2 levels: only management cad or full plm.

we have medium-large reality without pdm.
If you don't need it, you don't need it. Moreover if in the company I already have v5 with a pdm (sap-tc-vpm) does not make sense to switch to v6.
above all in this period, companies invest less on new systems and hold close those that year. in Italy there are still 20/30 reality with still v4... is it not disconcerting? ! ?
