1. decided a priori to engineering;
2. considers the choice of the degree program to be made based on occupational implications

As far as point 2 is important, the decision-making process is usually different: you have a strong passion and interest for a specific technical field (including mathematics behind us, technical design, etc.) and "naturally" you get to engineering (mechanical, electronic, etc.). This seems to me a fundamental aspect to succeed well in studies and work.
