Hi, guys.
I need to ask you a question which I hope you can answer. I happened to reveal a cloud of points of a component to be used for teaching purposes (it is a parallelepipedo). When I perform scans, with the software supplied to the 3d scanner, I have a way to place the piece on the origin of the reference system. This means that regardless of the reverse software used, when I open the cloud I will see it correctly set in space 3d.
now that I have received a cloud already beautiful and ready, it came out I am trouble. I ask you: in geomagic, is there a possibility to fix the cloud compared to the software reference system? in practice, is it possible to orient the cloud of points so that the 3 fundamental planes coincide with 3 of the 6 faces of the cloud?
I ask you this because in rapidform there is the possibility to "re-orient" the cloud but not as a cloud, but as a native file of rapidform.
thanks:finger:

Of course you can do, there is the "setting" command in the change/tool menu.
a drop-down menu opens in which you can set shifts and rotations, in absolute mode or associated with references.
from one version to another slightly changes the interface but the command exists at least of version 7 (the first I met).

Thank you max.
However, I believed there was a command more similar to that of rapidform, but capable of acting on the cloud. quickly, in fact, after identifying the zones to different curvature, you have to arrange the piece (with cloud attached) regarding the best terna of Cartesian axes.
I hoped that there was something like that in geomagic too, because I believe that the command moves is still a little unpredictable.

Anyway, thanks for the info:finger:

should have this option look for a "bestfitting" item or something similar

I'm sorry, but I don't understand.
in geomagic there is the curvature analysis, there is the bestfit, there is the possibility to move clouds of points or triangular data.
I didn't understand what makes rapidform, maybe with an example image you would help me understand.

I think he just wants the bestfit

if that's what you're looking for is called "global registration" and it is done after doing the "Manual Registration" of the various scanning sessions.

I've been absent for a few days.
That said, I try to explain myself better. the best fit is a way I know and use normally. manual recording (as well as the global one), is something I use when I have 10 scans of a piece and I have to do only one.

My problem is the following. When I scan a piece, I care to place it in such a way that the origin of the global reference system coincides with the center of the body. If, instead, I receive a cloud from third parties, the usual problem occurs: the piece is lost compared to the origin of any type rapid modeler, proe, catia to name only a few. I would like to know if in geomagic, apart from the command moves to which max referred, there is more to "center" the cloud of complete points than the reference system.

Good morning.

you must use alignment through datum references in order to refer to your point/mesh cloud at the origin of the xyz global axes:wink:

Good morning, as from regulation you are begged to introduce yourself to the community and read the regulation itself (I assume you did not see the lack of presentation).

Are you talking about design x?
