If they're solid, you can't do it at least in 2006, with the latest versions, I don't know.

you can color one or more areas simply by selecting faces and choosing accordingly color; system valid for solids and/or components from 2008.3

I use autocad 2016 and selecting the faces and consequently choosing the colors the solid remains unchanged and nothing happens. Am I wrong? Could someone tell me the steps to color the solid facades?
