I did some tests myself and I found the same problems as flfn, often with the command promotes the subaxieme instead of exploding disappears. I also think you're in trouble in the model.

from what I have seen with the tests I have done if the model is extremely simple and with only 2 levels before promoting everything works, if they begin to be third-level subaxis then they are pains.
I tested promotes in a design and the promoted subaxieme disappeared within another 50 axiemas in which it had been inserted. However, he continues to disappear and not be "promoted".
