Good morning to all,
as from title, I would need to know if it is possible in a set with 2 configurations, use the "substitute component" function but only in the active configuration. I'll explain. I have a set with a and b configuration in the configuration to I have a "z" tree with above the "y" component. in the b configuration I always have the same "z" tree but I want to use the component replacement function, going to replace "y" with "x". since components are similar to replacement but does, but unfortunately it extends it to all 2 configurations, which I do not want. I tried to turn a bit to see if this function allows to choose " replace only in this configuration" but I found nothing.. .

thanks in advance
p.s. solidworks 2018 sp3

if you have un solo Part y file that is present both in the configuration to and in that b you can not claim to replace it and that magically you split up becoming two side files y and x.
if you have due file of part y that are present and active alternately in the configuration a and in that b then you can replace one of the two.

It is not a limit of solidworks, it is simple reality: you cannot replace one thing and claim that it is still present. replacement implies a removal of the previous one.

of course you can always create y configurations so you have in the same part file y and x

You can't.
the alternative is to have them both and suspended alternately in the two co gigurations

the solution to adopt a double configuration of "y" I had already thought of it, but unfortunately the 2 components were designed separately. to do this I should delete the file "x" and go to bring changes on the particular y creating the config. y1. the only solution is suspender and y and enter x. the problem is that above these 2 components there are other components , and I lose all couplings once I suspect y.

then you have to review your modeling and choose the least challenging road
or configured part
or part to stay alternately
