This topic was dealt with in other topics.
I'll play it with a video.
procedure :
in the "surface finishing" tab of the appearance, there are two predefined mesh "mesh circular hole" and "mesh diamond hole".
if neither of you do to your case, you can choose "mesh custom hole"; This option will allow you to use any image properly created to simulate any type of repetition.
this option was introduced in solidworks 2011 sp3.0.
how to create your image:
1) use a black and white image.
the other images will be converted internally in black and white. (recommended).
2) black areas will be interpreted as "empty" areas, while white areas will be rendered with appearance parameters.
3) for better performance, try to use formats that do not reduce the quality with file compression.
jpg is not recommended, while png and bmp are.
4) create an image that can be repeated.
5) is preferable a square image rather than rectangular for better control in mapping parameters (eg. 512 x 512 pixels rather than 640 x 480).
