Bye to all,
I overwrite the default models of solidworks 2016, both part and together, in practice I modified the units in mm kg s and saved the models, now if I unload a step file from the internet and try to open them, solidworks answers me with this error messageCattura01.webpnow if I click by meal, solid asks me which model to use or:Cattura02.webpclicking on the template together opens the fileCattura03.webpwhile if I click on ok solid opens me this fileCattura04.webpthat is the same file without a sub together.

how to avoid this?
I restored the default models of the parts and assemblies, but I wanted to customize them by changing the units of measurement, some details like the shady threads and other propreities that make me comfortable during the work.
how can I save two template files, for part and together customized, that don't make me mistakes like the one shown? ?
Thank you all.

to try, did you try to change import options?

back to create templates, but do not replace them to the default one but call it with a different name so that when you open the step let you choose the default solid one or the one created by you even if you...
...from the message that appears to me it seems to me that in options be set to always use a certain template instead of being able to choose it; if the template is not usable (because corrupt, because with the wrong extension, because Tuesday solid behaves like an acidic sock, or who knows what else) then solid makes you choose another from the templates present.
then to begin to understand if it is a corrupt template, put it in the options ask the user to select the model and then use new templates and see how it behaves

Hello Masses,
I restored the default files and created two more template files with the customizations I wanted. Now if I start a new part or together I can choose which model to use, while if I open a solid step file use the default files without asking for anything, maybe so it is set in the settings. as procedure could also go well, but if I can have only one custom template file I would prefer it.

you have to change the settings. I also linked the page where to do it

In the end I took model files from another computer in uffico, I made a repair of the installation of solidworks, and then I created files with customizations but I did not overwrite them, I kept them both. I did some tests, then I deleted the original files from the folder leaving only the custom ones, and in the options I imposed to use only those. at this point everything seems to work regularly, opening step files does not appear to me that error message and the file is complete.
probably was a mistake due to incorrect installation.
Hello everyone

Good morning, same problem for me too...
Reset the business defaults and reset the correct paths in the options.
now both in advanced and in beginner mod., and in open external files, select the correct models.
thanks for the collaboration
