different colors for work

hi to all, I am making a welded piece with dedicated configuration (the particular rough) and a later configuration that will contain all machine processing. I would like to make sure that the color of the piece was exclusively on the external faces, and working to bring back to light the live metal. Can you do that?

I don't know if I understand, but if you look on the face, and then make for example a cut extruded the color of the extruded cut faces back that of the material

true, in fact for now I am doing so, but I wanted to know if to color all the faces, that is only the outer part of the welded piece, there is some shortcut or if I have to select each face. for now I have noticed that by selecting the window on the whole piece coloring me from time to time only faces facing me, with a couple of windows I can do it all, but it's a little bit of a homemade solution.. .

I don't think he can distinguish internal faces from external ones.. .

if you don't have so many jobs you can color the detail in one shot and then recolor the work or the processed faces

can you post a screen of the object, or part of it, which you want to treat?
so I understand better if you can solve it quickly.
