I installed draftsight on ubuntu. it was not as easy as on windows because it is not possible to install it directly from the operator of the applications, however, following some straight found on the net, I managed it and the program "gira".
Unfortunately, however, the screen area in which the drawing goes is not correctly seen: only if I do the zoom or pan operations the objects are visible (on black background), otherwise it is all covered by white color.
Could someone give me suggestions?
I also have to say that on linux I can only move the first steps: I am an absolute neophyte!
Thank you for your help.

Then just forget...

edit: jokes aside...if you do it for "personal culture" there is nothing wrong, indeed...but imho linux unfortunately is not an operating system on which to invest

thanks for the encouragement! ?
Anyway yes! I do it for personal culture and because I am strongly interested in the developments of free software:finger:. I see that you too, perhaps for slightly different reasons from mine, are equally interested: You were the first to answer!
I also hope that someone can give me some indications to solve the specific problem. or at least to tell me something about your draftsight user experience with s.o. linux (on win it seems to me that there are no particular problems).

I installed draftsight on an old home pc with ubuntu x64 and it seems to me to work well.
Probably not compatible with the video card you have.

I found a little slow in use, but I don't know if it's due to the poor power of the pc (pentium4) or the fact that the software turns slow on ubuntu. Anyway, I opened a file and didn't have any problems with refresh video.

I didn't seem to be right yet to do a continuous job, but I hope it gets better quickly.

point your feet and dissent with extreme vehement!
linux in general, and ubuntu in particular for people coming from windows, is a great operating system. for many, many verses far superior to windows (not for stability though).
the problem is that, typically, if on windows does not go, it seems obvious to spend a week asking friends and relatives and to do network research on how to do / how to solve / how to craxxare.
to the first problem in linux instead (this for my experience) the first impulse is to say "'sta Ciofeca non va, better return to winzoz". when then the ubuntu forums are much more widespread and clear than those of windows.

According to me, as you have already been told, the problem is that it did not install the video card, and then ubuntu is "intuendo" using the default features.

The only problem with linux, I think, is that there are no serious cad programs that turn around. We have long discussed it on the forum, it is not a question of "the software falls, you can't do it aggratis". It is not true, there is so much software that costs even more and is available freeware.

you should probably use ati or nvidia propietari drivers for your graphics card if they exist. I have draftsight on 64-bit linux and it works very well.

Bye.
I spoke too soon, even with fedora 16 gives that problem, but with spindle 2010.2 works very well.

force the problem is gnome 3, try to start gnome in traditional mode, if possible (on fedora you can, on ubuntu I don't know).

with ubuntu you can use gnome classic.
with the 10.04 just activate it, with the 11.10 instead it must be downloaded
