eliminate layers dependent on external references

Good morning at the whole forum,
in an attempt to delete a layer appears a window that warns me that it is not possible to do so probably because the layer depends on external references.
how/where can I find such references?

Are you sure that's all I'm saying? it is not that by chance it is written:

the selected layer has not been deleted.

the following layers cannot be deleted:
• layer 0 and defpoints
• current layer
• Layer containing objects
• layer dependent on external references

?

provided that I use autocad2008, I have just tried to insert in the drawings of work external references.
xrifs are drawings that, stored in the directory of the current dwg or in other directories, are imported as such in the work drawing and, at least in the version 2008, behave as if they were blocks.
you can view the features with "tendina" "inserisci" e "external references" with which, in addition to the name, you can also see the path.
with the same curtain you can download and recharge the xrif.
trace of the contained xrif in the work drawing is also in the "Layer ownership manager".
I tried to use xrifs to draw from a single common base the work drawings of a purification plant: the same base must be used by those who will calculate the armed cements and by me that, in addition to having designed it, I take care of all the part related to the planting.
the single base will have to be updated from time to time by the computer of the c.a. depending on the varying thickness of the structures so that, automatically, it can be seen by me without worrying about these changes, but allowing me to always work on an updated design.

Maybe I was wrong, the only reference is that of the file itself.
Since the layer is not the current layer and is not 0 in the defpoints, the layer obviously contains objects.
Do I have to delete/change existing blocks?

If you're sure you don't need to use the laydel command.
