Hello everyone, I have a problem and I'm packing myself: I have to create an elliptical surface to reflect the light emitted by a led towards an opening. I have difficulties in determining the points of this ellipse. Can you help me? Thank you.

Where does the ellipse go?
Is it a complete ellipse or not?
Can you do a sketch of how you want to do it?

You're right. I'll coach you what I think should come out (black).
The ellipse is clearly incomplete, it is only a small arc.

I don't understand where you're having trouble.
in sketch environment:
draw the two segments in the desired position;
drawings a normal full ellipse
impose tangency constraints between the two segments and the ellipse
with the command "elimina segment" cuts the parts of ellipses that do not interest you, bound by the tangency points with the two segments.

if you have problems let me know... I'll put you a movie (not today... now I'm going to leave by bologna)

thanks maxopus, but my problem is to calculate the exact position of the ellipse. I have to find some point of reference because this functions for the purpose of reflection of light. I can't create an ellipse (or part) at home and risk that nothing works.

I use the position of the lamp (in your case the led) checking in the laboratory the size of the ellipse that emits the lamp at a certain distance, I calculate the angle and create the "light".
You could also apply it to your system.

If you want to calculate the position of the ellipse segment according to the reflection you want to achieve, you must use bmx, the pro/e module dedicated to behavioral modeling.
I have never used it, maybe it's the case that you contact someone expert on the subject or a smart dealer who can advise you.
