the thing that sounds strange to me is that solid edge doesn't have a function x something so simple! It would suffice the pmes to work properly, or that work could be done (excavation or extrusion) with the piece code!

The work does not take place like this... the editor has the prospectus with all the codes, has packages where the tiles are enclosed by codes (there are also the codes written above each...) plus on the wall there are reference processing to place them in a precise + precise way... so you do not need to look for drawings and measurements of every single piece!
