flanges and walls

I would have a question about the "generative sheet metal design" module. What is the difference between creating a wall starting from a edge and creating a flange (always starting from a edge)?

conceptually they are similar, but the flange has the possibility to propagate the selection continuously in tangence of the affected edge.
