flattening elliptical sheet

Ciaspo

Guest
Good morning to all,

I have a problem with the flattened function in an elliptical sheet.
the piece under construction is a blinding tea with invitation to 45°. Unlike the other sheet this portion of sheet does not flatten me and I cannot understand why. I'm not an expert on solidworks.
Thank you in advance.

wouldn't it be easier if you joined the file? how can you understand from an image which can be the problem?

the sheet metal creation function is not good because it does not have the bending subfunction.
the sketch, but I must study it; Maybe tomorrow if I have time

a helix like this only does it on the front floor, don't ask me why... if you want to build everything from the assieme try to rotate everything, putting the sketch of this part on your front floor. I don't make sure it works. 🤞

you are right, it works only and exclusively with the front floor; I would call it a bug.
It wouldn't be bad if someone reported it. . .

I tried to follow your advice, I might have wrong procedure, but it does not flatten the sheet even if the design on the front floor

I don't know if it's a version problem.
However try by eliminating the constraints to sketch 2; to me he did.
and remember that in the "ase-flangia" function there must be the subfunction "piegaturabase"

I have eliminated the constraints to sketches and references to the top but still nothing. I don't see the "piegaturabase" function, maybe that's what I'm wrong?

this function you must not create it; the "basic padding" function is representative of the single fold contained in the sheet function (try to do a c sketch and create a sheet, you will see that you will have 2 of these subfunctions) and can be modified in order to have for each fold different parameters (k factor, fold radius)
It could be a limit of your version, which we don't know what it is.
last try to exclude that it is the version:
-copy the eliptic sketch (ctrl+c)
- Clear all the way
- glue the sketch on the front floor (ctrl+v)
-create sheet metal

I have followed step by step your directions but still nothing.. .
will touch me to calculate the development by hand (n)

the reason is very simple: solidworks does not develop ellipses. the net bends, the cylindrical and conical shutters work. then there is an extra possibility regarding loft folds with which you can realize complex forms, but always "simplifying" in folds, at least in the way of reasoning of the program.
a question: why should it be an ellipse and not a "half asola"?
the alternative to the middle asola is a approximation with a sketch consisting of arches and lines that approximates your object, something very similar to the sheet with loft.

I really managed to develop it simply with the basic flange function.
is in version 2019
in fact taking the last attachment of @ciaspo and doing the function I get the full function

Also this can be a good suggestion, as soon as I have time I also try this method!

I use version 2018, it could be that with the update of the version they have implemented the functions

great suggestion! In this way I can develop it until I cut.. .
when you make a cut on the sheet always pay attention to the "normal cut" check; this option is used to optimize the cutting so that it is perpendicular to the development of the sheet. on flat plates does not need, but on those curves it is.

yes I know, normally I use it but also in this case it does not make me make normal cutting with or without optimize geometry
