Good morning to all.
are struggling with a fairly common problem I think.

I have recently undertaken the free profession and use solidworks.
I mainly deal with mold design and ... the workstations that I have provided are not enough to carry out my projects!

I have a portable workstation fujitsu celsius h720
intel core i7-3820qm 2.7 ghz (cache 8 mb) - 16384 mb ddr3 ram (1600 mhz - 4 x 4096) - nvidia

(cover in magnesium) - integrated webcam (2.0 mpx) - intel centrino 6205abgn wireless lan & bluetooth
4.0 - 3g-umts hsdpa/hsupa module up to 14.4 mbps - tpm - fingerprint reader - lan
(gigabit) - li ion (6700mah) - blue ray (triple writer) - win7 pro 64bit [versione Multilanguage (D, E, F,
GB, ITA, NL)], single image of office 2010 included>>(with intel vpro technology)>premium selection

and a fixed thinktation c20

windows 10 pro

both go to suffering when I work with solidworks and I am having to buy a new workstation (I think )

1- Can you give me an optimal configuration for heavy use of solidworks?
2- Do you know any dealer who can resume the used workstations and propose me a new one?

I'm pretty desperate, where I used solidworks without problems (I had a great workstation but I had underestimated the thing )
And now I'm stuck in my new job...

Hello daniele77!!
Before switching to new workstations make sure your software works properly....the hardware you have is very powerful I don't see the reason to change the "machine park"....to want to look for the hair in the egg you could update the ws with a compatible cpu a little faster than your but I don't know how much you earn in practical terms.
I think you have to make sure that the operating system and software are properly installed.

Could you define what you mean? maybe even simple screenshots of the general model. because, ok the fixed is not the last found of the technology, but I doubt you will find big increases of power with new machines.

So I ask you an image to let us know what you're talking about, if they really are such heavy models. or the problem is elsewhere.

Sometimes I also let myself take from the frenzy of the last hardware released on the market but then when I see marfio a dear friend who makes small masterpieces with a notebook asus from 300€ with an i3 and integrated video card I put to reflect..... the real difference lies between the chair and the keyboard.

I don't know if it's a case like yours, but I try to explain. the ws at the top helps a lot, but it is not a solution. in the office we have a very varied hardware situation and even the last generation ws nail themselves if you do not use a minimum of lightening technique during modeling. we do great assemblies and it is a great effort if the model does not simplify to the bone. In addition to having accumulated experience and knowing how to create a smooth and simple modeling we create configurations to use in assemblies to have greater performance. compared to your current machines there is a lot of performance growth margin, but I don't know if it can be the ultimate solution to the problem.

Following the images of the work I made with another cad, sw just couldn't make it.
Consider that the mission is to have a completely parameterized design.

1 to 5 images: mobile side mould
6 to 7 images: fixed side mold

area retailers offered me a workstation of the following features

intel® xeon® processor e5-1650 v4
(hexa-core, 3.6 ghz, 4,0 ghz turbo, 2,400
mhz, 15 mb, 140 w)

operating system:
windows 10 pro (64 bit), italian

graphics card:
nvidia® painting ® m4000 from 8 gb (4 dp) (1
adapter from dp to sl-dvi)

memory:
16gb (4x4gb) 2400mhz ddr4 rdimm etc.

hard drive:
solid state unit sata class 20 from 2.5" and
512 gb

If any of you can tell me a way to work with sw on this type of mold, let's talk about it in private!

If I don't run solidworks I prefer the cpu clock speed but as the first start attempt I would change the video card with a newer avoiding the m4000 for example the p4000/p5000 picture or the radeon pro wx7100, after I would pass to the ssd compartment with a nice samsung 850 pro from 512gb.
I think with these two updates you should be fine... if in case they don't go well you can transfer them to a new platform possibly a good assembled with cpu overcloccata ad hoc.

....Light metro:wink: from the w5000 onwards it seems that amd ati cooperates actively co dassault for solidworks....poi when we are all good...
