I have a doubt, how should a carpentry be listed?

for example I use the indication: ø12x40
now 12 is the diameter of the hole but the length 40 should be referred to the maximum length of the asola (at the edges of the long side to understand us) or indicate the center of the two circles ideally generators of the asola?
in the second case the real length would be 40+12=52
12 is: 2*diameter/2

depends on what type of processing you get and how you want to get along with your workshop.
always consider processing to help the operator and avoid having to make calculations (although simple):
if by milling clearly the entirety between the centers (free to the first center and moves to the second) as standard .
then I happen in the plates to make them do with punching machine and as the punches have crumbled width and length "out of all" of the cut, in this case I indicate the total external length.

depends on the type of asola... in general, if obtained from fresa I put the distance between centers, if obtained from punch instead put the length "outside everything".
