now I have a .step file sent to me by a supplier, the amount and opens me a set with different groups of surfaces.
from the environment together I can not correct and then merge everything.
the supplier says he exported it as solid, he uses toptron.
Did I do something wrong with the import parameters?
how to import it as solid? or to the limit as part where you can work on the surfaces, correct them and finally combine everything?

external files, not native, can be beautiful or ugly.
the latest versions of inventor are definitely tolerant and able to turn into solid mathematicians that in rhino are still open.
It also happens the opposite, if inventor does not make it, only rhino (between low cost programs and that I have available ) is able to make the miracle, clearly with my intervention and not automatic.
In the first place, however, an impeccable math must come out of the customer, it is better to confront and calibrate, perhaps changing some sorting in export.

export as a whole is not a problem, if the object is such, such remains.
import options I have never considered them, never turned out to be able to solve a difficult import.

so much to give you an example, the export of inventor in iges should be an assod thing, instead the igs file generated by the program is a real crap.
If my client wants that format I give it to him by exporting it to stp and then I make the conversion from rhino, the result is guaranteed, I don't even try to get out directly from inventor, even with the simplest pieces.

select the step you want to import, then do not open but go to the options (the key is lit) and set as from image.
In this way you can open a step together in a multibody ipt or single body (I prefer multibody).
