insert feature in a body... not always works

1 - I create a parallelepiped
2 - I create a cylinder with the option "up to the top" and select a face of the parallelepiped.
3 - insert, between prisma options, a 20 mm offset
4 - Right-click on the feature > insert into a new...
impossible!!! prism 2 refers to prism 1.(Figure 1)other way.
1 - I create a parallelepiped (the feature is called prisma 1)

Okay, this is possible:finger:
4 - Now, I go inside the newly created body, double click on prisma 2
5 - published the properties of the prism, instead of "quota" put "up to the top" and an offset of 20 mm
6 - click ok(Figure 2)miracle

as never this behavior. first not and then yes?!? there is perhaps some option to activate

That's how it goes. but if I want to use the option to the top and give an offset, as never changes the behavior.

• if the offset option gives it in phase of creation of the cylinder then I can not insert the cylinder in a new body.

• if instead (as you say) I use the distance option I can insert the cylinder into a new body. Now, within the newly created body the remote option of the cylinder and put up to the top with offset, everything works.

I would not like to answer you a banality but the message that appears seems clear to me.
cv5 fails to manage a boolean operation with a solid with limitation up to a surface of another body.
I think the algorithm was defined with the simple distance function. with this "restriction" cv5 better manage the Boolean operation.

However if you try to define the cylinder height with a formula should go. in the formula go to take the thickness of prism + the mm you want to add.

anyway I think it's a limitation and not a bug.

Try to hear who makes you cv5 support.

I bet I already know his answer in English (w... a... d...)

Thanks falonef. the question arises from the fact that often, during the initial stages, it can be useful to insert a feature in a body and then to do a boolean operation. Maybe this one lies a certain distance from another.

it seems that in this case the leotards are not for catia of the simple "containers" but they release the features from existing ties.
In this case it does not allow me to do the operation because I have a connection with another feature.
