local and conceptual masses

hi! I just started using revit.. I have a big doubt
What is the difference between conceptual mass and local mass?
I realized that the conceptual mass serves for a volumetric creation is studied separately outside the project and then loaded into the project. .
and here comes my confusion. Why? Why if I want to get a non-standard volume (parallelepipedo) can't I proceed with it creates mass directly from the project?

the difference is in the nomenclature, while in fact it is less noticeable.

the local mass is activated in the current project, so if you have to take inspiration and snap from the existing project to generate any type of conceptual modeling (e.g. a particular cover between two existing buildings); This element lives and dies very likely in this project.

the conceptual mass instead creates a special family that, once finished, can be inserted in the project as a library element. typical example can be a door etc.

the substantial difference lies in the fact that in the conceptual mass there are many opportunities at the level of additional commands that do not find in the local mass (also because many features inherited from the project).
In summary one is worth the other, but ask the question first... do I need only in this project (local mass) or do I always need (conceptual mass)?

For example in a lot (imported by dwg), I would like to see how the composition of multiple envelopes relate to each other.
use conceptual mass or local mass?
the conceptual mass does not allow me to have the actual measurements but cme say you have more possibility of modeling. What is it? a gregorous sauce

Sorry, but where are the two types of harvests.
revit 2011 in the bar shows no differences.

The local mass is the one shown by you.
the second you find it from the file-new-family-massa conceptual menu.
changes the panorama and some commands.. .
