mirroring together

to mirror a set, small carpenters in my case,
creating a set file separated from the original how do you do it?
I tried to save as a copy a set and from there try to mirror
with insert,specifies components but does not remove the basic components and adds only the component mirror function in the function shaft.
Help me?
