Hello. I need to model ball valve bodies. I wanted to know if there's a method. I have to model the finished piece and then put the overmetals or I have to make the molten crude first and then add the processing to get the finished.

You can do both. I would try to follow the normal flow of production of the piece, and that is to draw the molten crude and then add the various processes to the m.u., but there is no fixed rule, should be evaluated case by case.

One thing you have to decide is whether to make two separate files for crude and worked, or one, depends on how and whether your company codifies the crude. in case of having to make two separate codes, you can think of making a par for the crude, and then insert the crude as a copy inside a new par and make on the latter the mechanical processing (or the opposite obviously).

I design forged valves
I did this:
crude body with overmetal
body worked only central part equal for all sw bw connections etc.
starting from a part
where I insert the crude to work
body with processing of connections where I insert the part with only the central part
so if you change the crude I just have to open and update the drawings

problems are also there during the fem analysis. because if I read finished and melted I have to edit two files when I optimize the thicknesses.
