Hi.

I'm modeling electronic components and I need to model their outer coating.

here is an example (see the blue part):
http://media.digikey.com/photos/tdk photos/cd series 11.5d.jpgThis coating adds a thickness of 0.5 mm to the component and is obtained by immersion of the component into a liquid substance that after solidification.

I have no idea how to shape this coating.

Hello and thank you,
enrico

How did you shape it?
you will have, I imagine a solid body with faces; in this case I would do so:
-I used your component to another ipt file.
-cut the two terminal wires at the base of the component
- eliminate the two faces that have formed on the cutting point.in this
way, without those faces, you no longer have a solid but only surfaces.
-I use the "inspection" command to create your coating.
If your solid has been created without errors or strange things, during the "extension" command, you can also use the "superset" option that allows you to choose all surfaces with just one click....

Good idea!

I'll try it tomorrow and let you know...
