good evening to all, I am struggling with the modeling of a composite material audition (in particular of a plain weave fabric) in patran and I am struggling with some doubts. in particular in one of the 4 layers of the test there is a cut in the fibers (this area affected by the cutting was modeled as a laminate with 3 layers with the properties of the composite and 1 layer with the properties of the matrix alone as it seemed reasonable to argue that in the cutting area the load is transferred only thanks to the presence of the matrix). from the analysis I would like to reconstruct the position of the damage using the strain field in the various plys of the laminate but the latter are equal in all the plys (logging on I have attributed this result to the fact that since linear movements in the thickness of the laminate the strains will be constant). therefore to grasp any differences between the strains of individual plys would be necessary a model with 3d elements instead of using 2d shell elements?
