Hello, everyone.

I should perform a cfd analysis of a rigid wing of an ac62 catamaran for america's cup.
the problem is that I only have an iges file, downloadable directly from the official website of the competition, but I can't change it and then use it in star-ccm+ software.
In particular, it seems that the file was created with surfaces but when I open the iges file with catia is as if it recognized it as a solid, I am not able to join and close the surfaces and therefore I cannot fill volumes.
I hope I have made the problem clearly and I highly hope someone can help me.

thanks to all

Shouldn't you recognize him as a "solid", maybe you mean like a single surface? (which however has not connected edges!).

if there are no large distances, with union (increasing tolerance) usually closes.

if there are big problems sometimes it is better to separate the surfaces and join groups

you must at least report the error message of catia during the operations you try to do, or better if you also put an image of the tree and the 3d...

Good evening gigiotto8,
I've been quoting everything she said. then:
0) I hope I understand the problem well;
1)I add that, once the error is not elsewhere, you can, to force the "union" of multiple surfaces, act with healing, which is a kind of join with a small deformation of the surfaces to obtain the union of the same. some sort of "repair." Of course there is to keep the deformation under control. sometimes it becomes excessive and you have to act in other ways.
2)Instead, I wanted to ask you something . I don't know in the specific star-ccm+, but I happen to generate 3d models for other cfd software and, as I remember, they required surfaces. Besides, sometimes, surfaces on different layers to be able to manage differently, "body" and you.
3) I hope I didn't say nonsense.

Thanks for the answers, but sorry if I didn't answer, it was a little bad.
However he was right gianni55, I put the problem wrong; the fact is that it made me a mistake in solid modeling and I couldn't understand why. After a few attempts, however, I realized that the surfaces had very small openings, so I executed the "component" command by simply increasing the tolerances and then did not give me the error (I hope to have done a correct procedure).

for expatriated reader, I am not yet very practical to star-ccm+, however I can tell you that it is able to work both with surfaces and with solids (depends on the needs), the difference is that if you work with solids then it is necessary to meshare obviously also the internal volume, but always depends on the needs of the anilysis.
