Hello, everyone. I wanted to ask a question that I will need to make decisions for my professional future. what are the software that will be most in demand in the field of lightin design and urban furniture? Thank you.

I don’t know the lighting design industry.
in urban planning many still use autocad 2d, this sector has not developed much from this point of view. in the projects of detail, i.e. stralci from 1kmq down, we make studies plani volumetrici, with studies of urban furniture. here so far no specific software has spread so I have seen using many different software. from autocad 3d to 3dstudiomax, cinema, in general many generic modelers.
now autodesk is pushing special products like civil, perhaps unique in the genre. to see if you take foot.

I apologize for making a typing error, I meant lightning design or lighting systems design. This is not really about urban planning but industrial design. I intend to design bright projectors, light poles and urban furnishings such as benches baskets flower boxes and bus stop hangings. Do you think you better 3dsmax or solidworks?

I think they're two different software.
solidworks: is strongly directed towards technical design. Ragiano in a very engineering way. this does not take away that you can make beautiful renderings. If you have to extract executions from your works, I would say that this or similar software is mandatory.

3dstudiomax: is completely directed for modeling and rendering. from this point of view is perhaps the best choice. You can make images with light studies, I don't know how solidworks keeps up on this aspect.

alternatively design in inventor and then render in 3dstudio
See here.

if it comes to industrial design you need a nubs and/or solid modeler, and a rendering engine. then you will have to make drawings in 2d. with solidworks you can do all this, but it is more suitable for mechanical design, and consequently it has a high cost.

the best thing I think is to design in cad and then make it max but still there is always a problem to deal with. . Imported cad models in 3ds max are very heavy and rendering times become eternal...... how do you deal with this problem?

Let it lose max, take a look at Kyshot, uses cpu and is very fast, very suitable for industrial design, simple to use, import all data cad.
But then what do you use?

the software I have at the moment are autocad 2013 and 3ds max on autocad me the cable well but for the 3d I would need something more. for this I am evaluating max and solidworks. thanks enri I will inform me better about keyshot that I did not know. What are your strengths?

if you have to make renderings, then max is fine, if you have to design and real objects that then have to go into production max is useless and you should orientate on a cad3d type solidworks, solidedge, inventor, creo etc... to render you could rely on external software or, in case of swx, use its internal or external engine that work as a plugin.

if you use it as a designer, and not for production do not spend thousands of euros for solidworks, choose rhino, and work together with autocad, import natively 3dm files of rhino. keyshot has a very low cost compared to 3ds, and save a lot of time to be productive.
max and swx are two different planets, such as a spider and an auto-articolate. :

great sw keyshot for rendering
easy and fast for presentations.
software cad ne found in bizzeffe
if you do not have to make technical drawings(which require knowledge mechanical drawing)
for the ease of learning of sw I would recommend you solidworks or thinkdesign.
consider that if you have to buy a cad what costs a lot is the course days.. .
