negative creation of a solid

Good morning to all,

I create this discussion because after several hours and attempts I am not coming to the head.
I should make a laying to accommodate the piece (3d in attachment). the only solution that came out was to use the "cavity" function. I had to create a set, insert the laying and the piece, then use the cavity command. as a solution I'm sure it's wrong, but I tried anything without succeeding. how would you do that?

p.s. use solidworks 2009.

I would say your procedure is correct. Alternatively, you could have used the "abbina" function in "sottrai" mode, but I don't know if in 2009 there was already.

There are several ways, you can also use the surfaces by "uniting surfaces" on the faces that interest you and "cut" the solid using those created surfaces

thanks for the answers,

I tried to use the surfaces but without success, it always gave me error. What surfaces should I join? how do I cut the solid with the surfaces?

the cavity command compels me to hold the axieme that I had to create to use that function and therefore I can not erase it. I don't like this much.

I'll give you an example. from a solid selection of the surfaces that interest you to create a single one that will make it as a cutting tool (must be continuous) press the button "join surfaces" and as you see the result will be a unique surface. with this you can play with the tools "divid" or "cut with surface" to dig on a solid the form that interests you1654497096317.png1654497128556.png
