odbc, query e open office

and I don't understand it completely...
My question is this:

we have a management from which everything is managed (customers, suppliers, separate, production cycles, etc...); This management works in unix, to extract summary tables based on the topic (costs, out-of-course materials, graphics, etc...) were created in the years of specific queries that with excel and a particular driver (it is called unify odbc oqualcosa of similar), going into the data menu -> importing external data are opened and after login is extracted in excel the table of what is needed (experience).

Now, you would like to go to open office, but I haven't figured out how to do the same thing yet.

doing some research on the internet, it seems that you have to go from open base, then go into open calc, I press that this specific driver (unify odbc) is recognized also by open office, I arrived very close, but I am not able. . .

Do any of you agree to this?

the procedure I follow (according to what I have read, maybe it is not the right one) is this:

- installed specific and configured odbc driver (the same thing also with excel, so the driver should be in place)
- open base and select "link to an existing database"
- in the curtain select "odbc" and click "advanced"
- as "data source" hover and select the driver installed previously and click "advanced"
- I log in and try to connect and everything goes to good end and click "before"
- save the database and the log
- opens the window for editing, I actually see the correct entries, with the names of the various subgroups present on the server (eg: us/euro/pinco/parmag for the warehouse parts)
- if I double-click however I do not see any value or compilation of the table (already strange, but not from error messages)
- open base lock
- open calc
- I press f4 and I find the database registered
- I'll break it.
- espando the tables
- I log in and I actually see voices as before
- now if I want to select the item as before (such as: us/euro/pinco/parmag for the parts in stock) returns the following error:it was not possible to upload the content bla bla bla table name too long us/euro/pinco/parmagI thought about the name too long as by message, but I don't understand if and how to change I'm name and then since they are data from the management server, I don't know if it's good and right to go rename them. . .
