pattern of sprocket tooth

I have a pinion to which I drew a tooth. Now with the "pattern" function I would like to do the others, but I can't do the "group" of the faces, I'm refused both the "open" function and the "tasca" function. how can I do to group the set of faces so that I can then use them to create the pattern?

I actually had already created a simple "group of faces" that includes the faces of the tooth, but then this entity is not recognized by the pattern function... .

I finally solved, creating a pocket for each compartment and then doing the pattern of the three.

I tried with modeling v17, and I didn't find any difficulty, so I think I didn't understand your problem well.

If you want to put in the pattern also holes, you have to make an opening for each hole I believe. from that which I understood, these commands of grouping do not accept "non contigue" faces.[youtube]gkhfge4dm64[/youtube]

Okay, or try with v.17 and your commands... all right!
I passed to v.18 and selecting the faces differently gave me error "the faces do not form a valid pocket"
I would select with ctrl and not with shift, here's the error ...with crtl you would select one face and go wrong. while with shift everything ok.
for the holes no problem sceglendo "open" however as you say you are forced to select a hole at a time ...
