we make equipment that have to accommodate automotive plastic parts and therefore comes everything from catia.
we convert and sometimes remain surface bodies. But there's no problem with sw!

I all the time I load an element that comes from catia, even stuff not necessarily big) it becomes something impossible to manage.

if instead you open caia with sw I think it is heavier because it has to refer to the file of catia.. But I might be wrong. . .
However here we have i7 series 7, ssd, at least 16gb and picture k2200.
100mb math files are heavy to handle, especially if there is more than one...

I found that 90% of the mathematicians received from customers in step but designed with catia were fouled i.e. with holes and therefore surface bodies. if instead they send us the original in catia and we manage it to 99% remains solid and it manages better.
 
Maybe it's a cat's export problem in step, because the neutral files I unload from the various sites (skf, tracepart, misumi..) almost never give me problems and at most if there are resolved surfaces with a diagnostic of import and repair games and/or faces getting only solids

solidworks 2016, it often gives me problems opening steps of other cads (there is no one in particular), less problems if the step in question is in ap214a or ap214b standard.
