But why don't you save in dwf?
I do so, the dwf is practically the pdf of the autodesk for mechanical drawings, you can save with this format both the 2d and the 3d. downloading a very small free software (dwf viewer or better the design review) you can print from any device, and in addition you can take measures and other directly from the software.

the dwf do not use it, because often the interlocutor does not conoscre this format, he does not know how to use it, he does not know what it is.
therefore I prefer the most known pdf. but, if you have nothing to do with him computer illiterates, I agree that dwf is still fine.

attaching the viewer link would solve many of your problems. dwf is much more versatile than pdf.
