pro/piping: differences between "spec driven" and not.

Good morning, I bought a series of manuals from cadquest.com including the introduction to piping I have to learn in the company. the specific manual that does not treat the "spec driven" piping and instead has a wide range of exercises on the piping defined by the user. I would like to understand the substantial difference between the two ways. Besides learning the user-defined piping is useful to then draw with the spec driven or are two completely separate things? in the company I will have to work with the spec driven.
