Good morning to all,
I am a neophyte of catia v5. I was asked, however, to solve a problem which at first glance seems difficult ( given my lack of experience) .
I was provided with the cad model of a automotive muffler built through surfaces.since we should implement this model in another software, I need to make solid the above model. I did a "turn" on the site and found a "procedura" in shape design; or to select all the superfficies use the join and then the compose.
After some time searching I found these commands. My problem is that when I "mit" in shape design I try to open my model, to edit, but caia opens it as "product" so I can't (or better I can't do) use the procedure described before.
Can you enlighten me? ?
Thank you.

the post. say that I have been cured to understand how to get into shape design. for one of the six pieces of the total assembly I managed, with little difficulty in selecting all the surfaces and creating the union. I wonder.
1) is there a simpler way to select and merge instead of selecting individual surfaces?
2) When created the solids of the 6 pieces that form my assemblies I can return to assembly design and then bind the parts obtaining a single volume?
Thank you.

1) in the ima module, activating from the tool palette the red cube icon you should be able to select all the elements using the mouse (excuse me, but I broke the pcs, I don't explain to you how, percui I can't be more precise).

2) the assembly is a configurable/available environment only if you are working in a product (must be highlighted in blue). within a product you can create/enter all the parts you want or even further product containing one or more part.

Could you post some pictures to better understand?

thanks for the prompt response.
Now I'll get you the files in question. These are the pieces that make up the final assembly (this I will post it in .stp, because so I was provided to myself) . the fact is to succeed in making everything a solid, I am trying without succeeding I hope you can give me a hand.
Thank you.

Hello, David,
I attach the details converted into step and made solid by catia, now you just create the assembly.

Ua (experience of amazement and Neapolitan admiration) ... I thank you ... only that you would be so kind in explaining how you succeeded? I say that I have already been on a piece for two hours.. maybe I am using the wrong method(or environment) ...
Thank you.

I opened every single catpart with catia and saved as stp. with soloworks I opened the saved stp and renamed in turn as step. At this point catia recognizes them as solid.

ahahaha... beautiful .. congratulations:) ... but I leave you a senior user could tell me if my procedure was okay?
I was opening every single cat file in the shape environment. then I was selecting each single piece and clicking on join; downstream of the union, I used the commune command.
Is there a faster way? also because some "pezzettini" could not make them solid:(

I use it a little bit. I go wrong to give you a tip about it. I hope that the most experienced can give you answer to your last posts.

Thank you so much.
So the speech is that I need to create a volume within my piece. Is there a way to do it with catia? ? ?

I attach the file to make you understand what I'm talking about.
Thank you.
only the .catproduct you do nothing without the .catparts... .

I know what you mean. .

I can help you if I can but I'm messed up with work... I hope I can help you create the file and I've got it.

I'm going to train the catparts now. If you want you could tell me how to do it and I try. anyway I thank you for the availability

Hello David.. .

I don't have a method but sudden ...however I extracted the internal surfaces and then I joined them .. dissected in 2 the solid divided into dx and sx

cmq your modeling tolerance was a little not so precise and I solidified with 0.01mm because unclean.

then I noticed that it has only r.1,79mm radius possible???

I hope you're okay

greetings
