problem modeling surfaces with inventor 2015

I would have a problem in the modeling of the surfaces with inventor 2015, in practice I have just finished an inventor course 2015, but during this course that I did, the modeling with the use of the surfaces has not been explained to me quite well, for example sometimes I can not turn a piece of surfaces into a solid, then I did not understand well what are the differences of the controls of the surfaces, such as merge surface, sculpt, bounded surface.
So is there any of you who could explain to me well the modeling of surfaces with inventor?
