Hello everyone,

I've been trying to optimize my working method lately, explaining the situation since I've had doubts.

work in a company where we use a 40ine of different profiles that compose 20/30% of assemblies also of 3/4000 parts. in some cases the same profile can be present 50 times in different sub-axis with 50 different lengths depending on its location, so when I go to save the file I have to invent 50 different names.

for example an aluminum profile 100x30 female I have to call it:

100x30 high female
100x30 female right
100x30 female doors
100x30 female piano
100x30 female roof
100x30 female pip
100x30 female pluto
100x30 female duck

I mean, it doesn't sound like anything.

I would like to find a method where when I go to insert the profile 100x30 female together, I appear in the component tree always with the same name but that gives me the possibility to insert it with different lengths.
the second step would be to be able to ask the program how many meters of a given profile I used in the general axieme so that I can draw up material lists faster.
I tried to cuff with the content center to understand if it can come to meet my needs but I noticed that once placed together a certain profile I can not at a later time change the length, and this for me is fundamental.

Any suggestions?
ah, I use the 2014 version of inventor.

I hope I explained, thank you.

you could use the command creates iparts, where you set the lengths the evspers width etc.
When you call it back, you will be able to set a standard ingonbro, if that profile has to be modified, in the left side of the struttira you can change the profile to your liking, renameing the ipt file.

no, create a custom ipart with both key parameters and free parameters, then enter what you want
with names you want

Here I am, following online guides I created profiles that I subsequently converted to ipart, leaving the parameter length as a free parameter. now precisely when I go to put together the profiles I decide the length and is generated in autmatic a piece that always has the same name (e.g. tube 30x40x3) followed by a progressive number.
the only problem is that once I place the piece together I can't edit the free parameter but I have to replace the piece with a new one. Is there a way to edit it? Is my procedure right?

Thank you.

The name takes its default as you say, but you can manually insert it to your desired name and location.
when editing , if you change the free parameter directly from the set , logically you make a file replacement,
but if you want to avoid such replacement, go to change part (double click with mouse..) and always change your free parameter;
at this point your particular being edited, it changes to pleasure without replacement.
