quote diameters in detail without axis

This topic I'm sure it was treated more than once, but the "search" is not helping me.
as from title, made a detail of a section of a tree (the unloading gorge for grinding), and this detail does not arrive until the axis of revolution.
How do I quote diameters?

right click on the view / automatic axis lines
then, if necessary, remove the "visible" flag to the axis.

but it does not get to the axis, so it does not succeed (or at least I can't that I'm trying).
I tried to make a particular that understands the axis and then to cut it out but it doesn't seem to be possible to cut out a particular (I hope to be I dismembered);
I tried to draw a sketch line to use it as an axis but then I couldn't hide it;
only parametric solution to which I have arrived is a guide linked to the model parameters, perhaps appropriately renamed to remember what has been done.. .
or, _porcata_ that came to mind writing, I do the sketch (but it will not be parametric), I put the diameter quota, I reopen the sketch and set the line axis of support to "only sketch" and so disappear but the diameter quota holds. personally I would go of solution director + parameters that are a mess and more stuff you fix yourself better I am.
