real time model update from table excel

I have a question about the interaction between solidworks and excel.

on solid edge, if I go in the "variable" section, and I make "path links" on the field of a variable (after copying a cell on excel), the size in question dynamically connects to that cell, and every change in the excel table involves a real-time update of the model, and vice versa.

is it possible to do such a thing on solidworks? I searched for many tutorials, which exploit the data tables, but I couldn't get a result so versatile and simple... and I couldn't even run the real-time update of the model. Besides, I just can't parameterize the model: For example, if I have an unformatted table according to the solidworks standard, I can't read the data properly.

if it is not possible to do so, is there any external plugin that allows it?

coming from solid edge (an obsolete version) and being used to copy-paste variables, I have the same problem.
Does solidworks allow to do something like that?
If not how do I use an excel file (e.g. the one I used for myself) in solidworks?
ps. use sw2014 sp5.
